Mets vs Yankees Recap

The Mets started inter-league play this weekend with a subway series in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won 2 out of 3, improving their record to 25-20, and they're now tied with the Rays for first place in the AL East. On the other hand, the Mets won on Friday night, making their record .500, but lost the next two games, making their record 22-24, and they're in 4th place in the NL East.

On Friday night, the Mets won 2-1 on a 6th inning home run by Daniel Murphy. The only Yankees run was on a home run by Mark Teixeira, which probably would've been a routine fly ball in Citi Field, and almost any other MLB ballpark. R.A. Dickey had a strong start, and he picked up his second win of the year, he is now 2-5.

Yesterday, the Yankees won 7-3, and Capuano did not pitch well. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 6 runs, and 6 hit, including 4 home runs. Despite Capuano's poor start, Justin Turner broke a record for most consecutive games with an RBI for a rookie. He had an RBI in his last 7 games.

Today, the Yankees won 9-3, and the Mets didn't play well. Firstly, the Mets had many opportunities against Ian Nova, but couldn't get runs home. Also, they were winning 3-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, when the Yankees had an 8 run inning. The Mets will try to bounce back on Tuesday vs the Cubs.

Carlos Beltran Hits 3 Home Runs to Help the Mets Beat the Rockies 9-5

Last Thursday, The Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 9-5, and Carlos Beltran hit 3 2-run homers. -David Wright got the day Thurday off due to a sore neck and back, was in the lineup Friday night, and hit a 2-run homer to put the Mets in the lead, and the Mets came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Astros 6-4.

-Ubaldo Jiminez got the loss. He hasn't had a win sinse September 17, 2010, and he 0-5 in this streak. Jiminez only lasted 3.2 innings on Thursday, and hasn't pitched more than 6 innings this season.

- Ike Davis, who left the game on Wednsday in the 5th inning after a collision with David Wright, was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday.

- Jon Niese pitched good, he pitched 6.1 innings allowed 5 earned runs including 2 homers. One to Jonathat Herrera, and one to Todd Helton.

Lets hope Belran could continue swinging a hot bat, because the Mets have to rely on him now that Ike Davis is on the DL.

David Wright is Struggling

David Wright started off the 2011 season hot, but has cooled down over the past 2 weeks. He hasn't homered since April 24, and hasn't had an RBI since April 28. Wright had a recent neck injury, and Terry Collins thinks that's why Wright has been in a slump. I don't think this is something to worry about, because the exact same thing happened last year. David Wright started off hot, struggled in May, but then bounced back and had an amazing June, and was voted into the all-star game. This year, he's off to the same start as last year, so I think he'll have a good June.

Mets Suffer a Bad Loss to the Giants

The Mets went into last night coming off a 14 inning win vs the Phillies on an emotional night. The fans at Citizens Bank Park started chanting "USA" after the death of Osama Bin Ladin. The Mets won 2-1, and it was a big win. The Mets had an off day on Monday, and lost 7-6 to the Giants last night.

In the 1st inning, the Mets jumped off quickly on a 3-run homer by Carlos Beltran. The Giants quickly responded with 4 runs in the 3rd, but in the bottom of the inning, Ike Davis hit a 2-run homer. In the bottom of the 6th, the Giants were up 6-5, but Jose Reyes hit an RBI single to score Jason Pridie, and tie the game at 6. But in the top of the 10th, Aubrey Huff homered to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. And Brian Wilson finished off the Mets in bottom of the inning. Jason Bay was placed on the paternity leave due to a baby, and Lucas Duda will be filling in for him. The Mets still have a chance to beat the Giants today and tomorrow, and win the series.
