On Monday, the Mets have announced Terry Collins as their new manager. On Tuesday, he was introduced. In 2008, Collins manged the Orix Buffaloes in Japan. Collins has managed the Astros, and Angels before. He has a career 444-434 record as a manager, he has been an MLB manager for 6 years. He managed the Astros 1994-1996, and managed the Angels 1997-1999. Collins is currently 61 years old, and he'll be wearing number 10 in a Mets uniform.

Mets begin winter meetings
Yesterday, the Mets started winter meetings. There was a lot going on yesterday, where the Yankees resigned Derek Jeter for a 3 year deal, the New England Patriots killed the Jets 45-3, and every team was looking in to the free-agents market. The Mets have recently shown interest in Chris Young, and hope to get a deal with him soon. The also interviewed Andy Van Slyke for hitting coach. Winter meetings end tomorrow, and the Mets hope to make some big signings.

Mets continue manager look
The Mets have been searching for a new manager over the past few weeks, and are now down to four options. The four contestants are, Chip Hale, Bob Melvin, Wally Backman, and Terry Collins. The two front runners are Melvin, and Collins. If I were Alderson, or Wilpon, I'd go with Bob Melvin, because he's the most experienced. Melvin is the only one who has managed an MLB team before. He managed the D'backs, and eventhough the D'backs aren't the greatest team, at-least Bob Melvin has experience in managing a major-league team.

Posey, and Feliz take home rookie of the year award
Yesterday, SF Giants catcher Buster Posey, along with Texas Rangers closer Neftali Feliz both won the rookie of the year awards. My personal opinion is that for the NL Jason Heyward should have won, and for the AL, I thought Austin Jackson was going to win. I think these 2 plyers are overrated because they both apeared in the World Series. If both Heyward, and Jackson played for World Series teams, I think they'd both win the rookie of the year award.

Giants Win World Series
On Monday night, the San Fransisco Giants won the 2010 world series. I was expecting Texas to win, but the Giants won in 5 games. They beat Jeff Francoeur's Rangers. Edgar Renteria was named world series MVP. This was the first time the Giants won the world series in San Fransisco.

Mets choose Alderson as new GM
Last week, the Mets have chosen Sandy Alderson as their new GM. They chose him over Josh Byrns. He comes from Princeton college, and Yale law-school. He is 62 years old. On Friday, he was intraduced to Citi Field. I hope he will do better than Omar Minaya. For an example, Alderson probaly sign Ollie Perez over Derek Lowe. He is currently still in a manager search. Hope he does a good job, and make a big move.

Mets 2010 year in review
This year, the Mets finished 79-82, 4th place in the NL east. The leader in AVG. was Angel Pagan. He hit .290. In HRs, David Wright led the team with 29. In Runs, David Wright also led with 87. Angel Pagan led the Mets in hits with 168, and also in SB with 37. David Wright also led in doubles with 36, also in RBIs with 103, and in SOs with 161. Jose Reyes led in triples with ten.
Here are the pitchers stats. Mike Pelfrey led in wins with 15, R.A. Dickey led in ERA with a 2.84, Johan Santana led the Mets with 2 shotouts, and Fransisco Rodriguez led with 25 saves, and Jon Niese leads with 148 Ks.

Mets fire Manuel, and Minaya
Today, the Mets have fired manager Jerry Manuel, and GM Omar Minaya will now work as the executive GM. I think this was the right move, but just a little late. I hoped they would make the move last year. I thought that Jerry should have been fired by the all-star break of 2009. With Manuel, I couldn't stand watching a Mets game in August, and September in both '09, and '10. I was never so confident in him since the day they fired Randolph. And with Omar, I was happy that he got Johan from the Twins, but I'm upset that he resigned Ollie. I hope the new GM will make a big signing this off-season, and I hope that they're new manager will make 2011 the Mets season.

Mets 7-3 win over Phillies
Yesterday, the Mets beat the Phillies 7-3, winning the series on the road. It's always good to see them win on the road especially against a rival. They're offense was better than it was all season. On Friday, Angel Pagan homered. On Saturday, Lucas Duda hit a three-run double, and Thole, and Reyes both hit RBI singles. On Sunday, Beltran hit 2 HR, David Wright hit a HR (97th RBI), etc. So if the Mets continue to hit, they at least won't end with an embarassing season.

Do the Mets need a new ace?
Now that Johan Santana is out for the year, the Mets ace is R.A Dickey. The should have Dickey in thier rotation, he's good, and reliable but not thier #1 starter.
They should start looking into free agents. Hopefully Santana will be ready for opening day, but assuming he's not, they've gotta get a new ace pitcher. It's time for Omar Minaya (if he doesn't get fired) to start signing big. There a few great free-agents out there this off-season ad the Mets should sign a great pitcher. There a list of good free agents, for an example.
Cliff Lee, Ted Lilly, Aaron Harang, Vicente Padillia, and dontrelle Willis.
If the Mets want a good pitching staff, then they better get these players for next year to replace Johan.

Mets worries continue vs Atlanta
This weekend, the Mets got swept by the Braves. They lost the first game 6-2, the second game 4-2, and the third game 6-3. Both the hitting, and pitching was week despite homers from Wright, Reyes, Duda, and Hernandez. Luis Hernandez fouled a pitch off his foot, and went down. About 5 minutes later he got back up and the next pitch hit a homer. He limped around the bases, and later figured out that he broke his foot, and he's out for season. On Sunday, things didn't look that bad until Derrek Lee hit a grand slam off Manny Acosta in the 7th inning.

Johan is out for season
Yesterday, the Mets announced that Johan Santana will need season ending surgery on his torn antirior capsule. He most likely won't be ready for spring training. The Mets are probaly not making the playoffs so it won't matter but 2011. He might not play untill the all-star break. Hopefully, the Mets will be succsesful without him.

Gee's big debut
Last night, Dillon Gee pitched 7 innings gave up 1 run in two hits. He didn't allow a hit untill the 6th when he allowed a homer to Willy Harris. The Mets pitching rotation should now be.
1. Johan Santana
2. R.A Dickey
3. Mike Pelfrey
4. Dillon Gee
5. Jon Niese
and Mejia should be in the bullpen. Hopefully the Mets will get better pitchers this off- season.

Mets score 18 runs vs Cubs
Yesterday, the Mets beat the Cubs 18-5. Everyone played well. Jon Niese pitched 7 strong innings, and had 2 RBIs. Ruben Tejada hit his first homer, and Ike Davis hit his 17th homer. I liked how they figured out how to do it without they're hottest hitter David Wright, who was benched. They made up well for they're terrible loss on Friday.

Barajas to Dodgers
On Sunday, Rod Barajas was acquired off waivers by the Dodgers. Therefore, Josh Thole will be their starting catcher. What was the point of this move? Josh Thole is much younger than Barajas, and also gets lots of clutch hits. Henry Blanco is the back-up catcher because he's good at catching Dickey's knuckle ball.

Johan gets his second consecutive complete game loss.
Johan Santana, now has pitched 3 straight complete games two of them for losses. Not just he has the least run support in the NL, but he had 9 K's. When you strike out so many hitters and only allowed 2 runs, you deserve the win. 2 runs and 9 strikeouts are good. Especially with 4 no-hit innings. It made me upset that all they gave him was a first inning run. The night before Jon Niese gave up as many runs as Johan (1 run in 5 innings) and got 5 runs. On Friday night, Mike Pelfrey gave up as many runs, and got 7 runs.

Who should be Mets 5th starter
Now that K-rod is out for the season, Hisonori Takahashi will have to take over the closer spot. And Pat Misch is their 5th starter. Should Pat Misch be the Mets 5th starter? The options are Pat Misch, Oliver Perez, Manny Acosta, or Raul Valdez. I would put out Manny Acosta, and Oliver Perez, so it between Valdez, and Misch. Pat Misch had a great spring training, pitched well vs the Astros until Carlos Lee's three-run HR. And Raul Valdez is a good relief pitcher that could give you 5-6 good innings. I would go with Pat Misch, and by September, if he's not doing well, then I would try out Valdez. Please comment on your opinion.

K-Rod arrested, and suspended
On Wednesday night, Francisco Rodriguez was arrested for misbehaving with his girlfriend's father following the 6-2 loss to Colorado. Owner Jeff Wilpon suspended him for 2 games. K-rod will return to court on September 14. Hopefully, this won't distract the Mets because they have a big series vs Philly this weekend. This is non baseball related, so when on the field, the Mets should stop thinking about Frankie, and do their best this weekend vs Phillidelphia.

Pelfrey back to normal
Last night, Mike Pelfrey pitched 7 scoreless innings. This was his first win since June 25. It was also the first time he's pitched 6 or more innings since June 25 (vs Minnesota). The problems were that he was losing focus, and his sinkers weren't sinking, etc. Last night, you could tell that he was keeping focus because he wasn't taking 20 seconds to throw a pitch, and he wasn't licking his hand after every pitch. Over his last 6 starts, it took him a long time to throw a pitch because he was day-dreaming a bit. He was also licking his hand after every pitch for no reason.

Who the mets need to lose in order to make the postseason
The Mets are currently 7.5 games behind the Braves in first place, with about 2 months left of the regular season. That means there's not a great chance that the Mets will win the division. Just incase they could, they need the Braves, Phillies, and Marlins to all lose. In the wild card, the Mets are 8 games behind the Giants. In order to win the wild card, they need the Giants, Cardinals, Rockies, and Dodgers to all lose a few games. And the Mets have to start winning more often.

2010 Mets ace pitcher
All pitchers on the Mets have had some good starts, and some bad starts. Who do you think is the Mets ace pitcher this year? The decision is between:
Johan Santana: 8-5 2.79 ERA. Santana had a few good starts blown by the bullpen. But he also had that terrible start in Philadelphia. In his past few starts, he's been great. I would rate him (1-10) a 8 and 1/2.
Mike Pelfrey: 10-5 4.00 ERA. At the begining of the year, Pelfrey started strong going 10-2. But in 4 of his last 5 starts, he hasn't pitched more than 5 innings. I would rate him a 6.
Hisonori Takahashi: 7-5 4.52 ERA. He's done a great job joining the rotaion in the middle. He's sometimes lost control of his pitches. I would rate him a 5 and 1/2.
Jon Niese: 7-4 3.43 ERA. I like that he's lasting about 7 innings in every start. He also has a strong arm since he's young. I would rate him a 7.
R.A. Dickey: 6-4 2.55 ERA. He's been doing a great job replacining Oliver Perez in the rotation. He has an averege knuckleball, but it loses location too often. I would rate him a 7.

Mets vs D'backs preview
After losing 3 of4 to the Giants, the Mets will play a 3-game series with Arizona. I think these games are a must win. They are currently 5 games behind Atlanta. If the Mets sweep and the Braves get swept, the Mets will only be 2 games back. They are playing the D'backs who are 20 and a half games back. The Mets have had trouble so far beating teams under .500. Hopefully they could at-least win 2 of 3 vs Arizona.

Mets first half report card
Over the first-half of the 2010 season, my Mets report card is.
STARTING ROTATION: B-, I like the way Dickey and Takahashi became a starter in the middle of May, and are winning games. I also like the way Niese is returning from a hamstring injury. And Johan is getting better as the season is going along, and Pelfrey had an amazing start to the season. I just didn't like the way Oliver Perez came off a bad 2009 season, and is not making up for it. And John Maine has not been on his best.
BULLPEN: B, I love the way they are coming back from a terrible bullpen in 2008. I like the way Feliciano,Dessens,Valdez, and Parnell are doing. And K-ROD is doing better than last year. I just am upset how the always blow Johan's games.
DEFENSE: A, I love Francoeur's arm,(8 outfield assists T- most in NL) I like how Pagan and Bay are covering a lot of ground, and the infield has been great. The Mets rarely make errors.
OFFENSE: B+: David Wright, and Jose Reyes are both having their best season ever. No one expected this much from Barajas, Tejada,Cora,Blanco, Thole, and Davis. I just expected a little more power from Jason Bay.
OVERALL: B+

What will happen when Beltran returns
On Thursday July 15, the Mets are expecting Carlos Beltran to bat 4th in the lineup, and play CF. Manual will play him 5 days a week. He'll switch off playing, center-field, left-field, and right-field. That means Pagan, Bay , and Francoeur, will get benched more often. If I were Manuel, the starting lineup would be 1. Reyes(Reyes won't start Thursday due to a back injury) 2. Davis 3.Wright 4. Beltran 5. Bay 6. Pagan 7. Barajas (Thole) 8. Tejada.

Pelfrey is getting rocked
Mike Pelfrey started the season strong, and is currently losing every game. He sarted 8-1, and is now 10-3. Its not just his pitch speed, its also his location. Last night, Pelfrey couldn't control any of his pitches. An example is that he was down 3-2 on Scott Rolen, and hit him in the arm. I couldn't belive that the ump originaly called it a strike 3, and then reversed the call. I don't blame Manuel for going crazy. I blame Pelfrey for pitching it inside with 3 balls.

Marlins beat Dickey
Last night in San Juan, the Marlins beat the Mets 10-3. R.A. Dickey pitched 5 innings, and allowed 5 runs, getting his first loss since July of last year. It was because he didn't have good command of his knuckleball, so he had to throw more fastballs. It's not good when they get to his 60 MPH knuckleball and then you start pitching an 80 MPH fastball. To fool hitters, you don't wan't to only have a 20 MPH between your fastball and knuckleball. You should try to pitch around a 55 MPH knuckleball, and a 88 MPH fastball. Now you've got a 33 MPH difference.

Mets go 13-5 in interleague play
As the Mets rapped up a great interleague by beating the Twins 6-0. The great record could be because their opponents didn't know them yet. They didn't know what pitch the pitcher would that situation, and they didn't know well what pitches the hitter could/can't hit. They won 5 of 6 series, and the only loss came vs the Yankees, because the Yankees had already faced the exact same pitchers.

Angel Pagan is the most underrated player in the MLB
This year, Angel Pagan is hitting .302 with 4 HRs and 35 RBIs in 69 games. Not only I think he is the most underrated player in baseball, he also is tied for the most athletic player on the Mets with Jose Reyes. He is also a great eample for Jerry Manuel. I think by the way he's playing now, he could be an all-star.

mets second base problems
The mets don't really have a good 2nd baseman. Alex Cora isn't really what the mets need. Therefore, they should trade Cora and John Maine to Tampa, and get Ben Zobrist, and send Tejada to triple A.

Mets should get Cliff Lee

Cliff Lee has begged the Mariners to leave Seattle. The Mets want him badly which is a good thing so they could then move R.A. Dickey to the bullpen so they'll have a strong rotation, and bullpen. Who should the Mets trade for him? They should trade them Bobby Parnell, and Ruben Tejada. Bobby Parnell, and Ruben Tejada are both young, and will have a bright future. Jenry Mejia is really young and has around a 97-MPH fastball, so he'll practice in the minors, and will become a starter.

Mets 8 game winning streak
The Mets had an 8 game winning streak, before losing to the Yankees 5-3. What were the keys to it. The pitching was O.K, but the hitters gave them about 8 runs a game. When the pitchers pitch well and the hitters score enough runs, then your team is gonna win. Also, the sweep over Clevland reminded me a bit about last years Mets. They have 2 superstars injured,(Grady Sizemore, and Asdrubal Cabrera) and they're not playing well. Last year, the Mets were O.K, until everyone started to get injured and they ended the year 70-92.

Mets beat Indians 7-6
Last night, the Mets beat the Indians 7-6, winning their 5th straight. Unlike the whole season, the Mets scored runs to support Johan Santana. That's how you win a game. Santana usually pitches around 7 scoreless innigs, but the Mets only score 1 run. So in the 8th or 9th, the bullpen would give up only 1 run, and the opponent will tie it. So, if the Mets want to keep up Santana's 5-3 record, they need to score more runs.

Jon Niese pitches a 1-hitter
Yesterday, in game 1 Matt Latos pitched a 2-hitter and retired his last 22. And in game 2, Jon Niese pitched a 1-hitter. Is it that the hitters stopped taking drugs or is it that Citi field is a pitchers ballpark? Its both. Citi field is a pitchers ballpark, and all the hitters stopped taking drugs. You could tell because there were 2 perfect games, 1 no-hitter, and Armando Galarraga should've had a perfect game.

Mets vs Marlins
This weekend, the Mets start a 3 game series against the Marlins. Are these 3 games must wins? In the NL east, the Mets are a half game behind the Marlins, and 5 games behind the Braves in 1st place. If the Braves will loose 2 out of 3 and so do the Phillies, then if the Mets sweep the Merlins, they'll only be 2 games out of first. So if the Mets could beat the Marlins, then they'll have a chance to be in 1st place alone.

Pelfrey for Cy Young?
Mike Pelfrey this year so far, going into June, is 7-1 with a 2.54 e.r.a. If he continues to pitch like this, is he eligable for the Cy Young award? It all dependes on how Ubaldo Jimenez continues. Pelfrey is probaly going to be one of the top five in the NL, but if Ubaldo Jimenez finishes the way he's pitching now, he'll be #1. If he finishes weak, Pelfrey is gonna be my top choice.
Sunday, May 30, 2010
Mets beat Brewers
Today, the Mets beat the Brewers 10-4. R.A. Dickey pitched well but did he win the game? I think that it was the hitting that won. Players such as Jeff Francoeur, and Luis Castillo, haven't been hitting well this year and they got something going. David Wright, Jason Bay, and Jose Reyes have been hot and continued to be hot. When you have all your players hitting well then you'll win more games. If these players continue hitting and the pitching does fine, the Mets will win.
Johan wins,Mets lose
In May, Johan Santana is 1-0 in about 5 starts. He hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in a game. Why didn't he go 5-0 in May? Because the bullpen always blows the game. And the 1 win was vs the Yankees and he left in the 8th inning with a 6-1 lead, and the final score was 6-4. When you have your ace pitch about 8 innings per game, you bullpen has to support him. For an example in Millwakee, he pitced 8 scoreless, and the Mets still couldn't win.

Mets sweep Phillies
Last night, the Mets won their 3rd consecutive shutout over the Phillies 3-0. What won it all the pitching or the hitting? No question the pitching. In game 1, R.A Dickey pitched 6 scoreless innings, and Raul Valdez finished the job. In game 2, Hisonori Takahashi pitched like an ace in 6 scoreless innings. And in the most recent game, Mike Pelfrey was lights out pitching 7 strong, and K-Rod finished off the game.

Thank Omar?
This off-season, the Mets wanted a superstar and only got Jason Bay. Besides Bay, Omar Minaya signed 2 Japanese pitchers (Igarashi, and Takahashi) and 2 back-up catchers (Barajas, and Blanco). All the fans said how Omar is just signing trash. Should the Mets fans apologize him? Takahashi might be the best in the Mets bullpen (beside K-ROD), and could be the 5th starter replacing Oliver Perez who allowed 7 walks in 3.1 innings today. Igarashi was hot before going to the DL. And Barajas and Blanco both hit walk-off HRs vs San Francisco.
