The Mets had an 8 game winning streak, before losing to the Yankees 5-3. What were the keys to it. The pitching was O.K, but the hitters gave them about 8 runs a game. When the pitchers pitch well and the hitters score enough runs, then your team is gonna win. Also, the sweep over Clevland reminded me a bit about last years Mets. They have 2 superstars injured,(Grady Sizemore, and Asdrubal Cabrera) and they're not playing well. Last year, the Mets were O.K, until everyone started to get injured and they ended the year 70-92.

The streak was great while it lasted. Realistically, nobody expects 9 straight wins on the road. Hopefully they can keep up the momentum during the three or so weeks leading up to the all-star game. There are, however, some areas of concern. One is K-Rod. While he's been getting the saves, he has been walking a dangerous tightrope in the process. If that doesn't chenge, the law of averages will catch up to him, and he will start blowing saves. Another major area of concern is Santana. After several steller starts (where he had the misfortune of poor run support) he is starting to show signs of weakness. If the Mets want to compete against the Braves and Phillies down the stretch, they will need consistent quality performances from at least 3 starters.
ReplyDeleteHey NJMF, you are very right that the Mets will need solid starts to have any chance vs the Braves and Phils. I think the coming games will show us what this team is about- are they a .500 team that can baiscally just beat the teams they are supposed to beat or are they pennant contenders who can beat the best teams in the league?
ReplyDeleteRE: Johan Santana also has got to stop giving up grand slams.
