In May, Johan Santana is 1-0 in about 5 starts. He hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in a game. Why didn't he go 5-0 in May? Because the bullpen always blows the game. And the 1 win was vs the Yankees and he left in the 8th inning with a 6-1 lead, and the final score was 6-4. When you have your ace pitch about 8 innings per game, you bullpen has to support him. For an example in Millwakee, he pitced 8 scoreless, and the Mets still couldn't win.
You are tight NJMetFan. This seems to happen a lot to Johan. Happened a lot last year too. The Mets are now only three games out. If they could have just held on to win all of the Johan games they could maybe be in first now. It is interesting that the bullpen is usually able to hold Pelfrey's leads this year.
