Last week, Mets owner Fred Wilpon announced he was going to sell 25% of the team. The reason why Fred/Jeff Wilpon chose to make this big move is most likely because they lost about $300 million dollars 2 years ago from Bernie Maydoff. Martin Luther King lll is interested in buying them, so he may split the job with former Met Ed Kranpool. Hopefully, they'll get someone with a lot of money, so the Mets could get some good players.
Hey NJMetFan, if your insights are any indication, you would do a much better job than these guys running the team. Maybe you can put together an investor group. Get each one of your fans to pledge some money toward the effort. If you get a large number of people to join your group, the per-person investment will be relatively small. Remember, Steinbrenner's group paid $10 million to purchase the Yankees back in 1973, but George only kicked in $168,000 of his own personal money. And look how much the Steinbrenner family's interest in the Yankees is worth today.
